Peter, the disciple of Jesus, wrote a second letter to the believers to encourage them to stay on God's path. He reminded them that their faith has a firm foundation. It is founded on the historical Jesus, whose story is true. Peter testifies about this story. What he saw in Jesus's life and what he learned from the books of the prophets makes this a true witness.
When Peter finished speaking about this, he again warned the believers that certain people – so called prophets or teachers- would appear. But they were liars. There are such people now. We will recognize them by their works and by their words. If their words and behaviour do not respect the laws of God written in the holy book, they are liars.
Finally, Peter told the Christians to persevere, for Jesus would return to earth and take them with him to heaven. There were those who sought to discredit Jesus by saying that he had taken too long to come back; that he had not kept his promise to return to earth. Peter explained to them that Jesus was taking his time because of his love, because he wanted many people to receive his grace before he returned to carry out the final judgment.
All these teachings should be an encouragement and source of knowledge for us. May God help us to know this. Amen!
