Since God created the world, he has been teaching his laws to human beings. Great prophets heard God's voice and passed on his word to other people. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, Isaiah and Ezra were all honourable men whom God used to make his laws known and to write them in a holy book. Finally, God gave his word to Jesus the Messiah, whom he sent to the whole world.
Jesus descended from the Hebrew race, like all the prophets who preceded him. Jesus carefully observed all the laws as God intended. But God also gave Jesus a new teaching that the Hebrew people did not yet know. This teaching does not contradict the laws God had previously taught but rather fulfils them.
Long ago, God made a covenant with human beings. However a single sin could break that covenant and lead humans to ruin or perdition (this is less well-known). When Jesus came into the world, God made a new covenant with humans, a covenant that can erase sins and save the human race.
Long ago, God chose priests as intermediaries to intercede on behalf of human beings. But because they were also human, they sinned like everyone else and died, and in reality did not turn out to be ideal intermediaries to intercede for people. When Jesus came into the world, God placed him as an intermediary between himself and human beings. Jesus became a gift given to the whole world. Jesus had no sin. Death could not hold him back. Indeed, God exalted him to his right hand to exercise authority over the world.
Long ago, God commanded people to offer animal sacrifices because of their sins. This gave a measure of comfort to people, but it could not give them full forgiveness of their sins. When Jesus came into the world, he offered himself as a sacrifice for the whole world. In this way people’s sins have been forgiven and they have received eternal salvation.
All this shows that God sent Jesus to fulfil his laws and become salvation for all people. This is good news. May God bring this news into our hearts, so that we may understand that this is our salvation. Amen!
